We love to start our mornings with delicious, healthy breakfasts. Traditionally served with savory dishes, quinoa actually makes a great hot breakfast cereal. And quinoa, as you may know, is known as the supergrain of the future. It is SO good food you - rich in protein, fiber, iron and magnesium to name a just a few benefits.

This recipe is pretty simple. It only takes about 15 minutes to make. Here's what you'll need:

hot breakfast quinoa recipe

1 cup quinoa, rinsed
2 cups water
1/8 teaspoon cinnamon
1 tablespoon honey
1/3 cup walnuts
1/3 cup blueberries
1/3 cup chopped strawberries
1/3 cup chopped banana
1/3 cup blackberries

(You can always substitute the fruit for ones that are in season. Sometimes we chop up apples and place them in the pot for the last minute of cooking. It tastes almost like hot apple pie).

Bring the water to a boil in a small saucepan. Add the quinoa and return to a boil. Reduce heat to low and simmer covered for 12-15 minutes until water is completely absorbed.

Stir in the honey and cinnamon. Add walnuts (and apples if using them) for 30 seconds. Spoon the mixture into bowls.

Add the additional fruit on top of the quinoa. Serve with lowfat milk or almond milk. And enjoy!
